Minecraft YouTube Series Info

{Back to main website page}

This series has not actually been posted yet, but I've finished recording the first three episodes' footage. I plan to upload the first five episodes in one chunk of time, and MAYBE into one video, because the beginnings of a Minecraft world are generally pretty boring even if modded...

The short version:

Basically, I'm doing a "Vanilla+" Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge world, meaning I use mods, but they fit decently well into the base game. So no electricity or outer space or anything like that. There won't be audio commentary, but I absolutely will make snarky comments via signs, chat, and/or text edited into the video. Please keep in mind that I'm new to some of these mods, so although I've played Minecraft for over ten years, I still may make n00by mistakes. Also, I normally play with KeepInventory turned on, but it's OFF in this series, soooo...

The looooong version:

Currently, my obscure-game-playthrough series is what I'm most known for on YouTube, but I want to also try some traditional stuff, too. And what's more traditional than a Minecraft Let's Play series? :P

Below is a list of all the detailed info about my series. Mods, config changes, etc. Some mods I 100% recommend for those who are new to the world of Minecraft modding, and they are pointed out below.

MOD CONFIG FILE CHANGES:

[Alex's Mobs]: Crows don't steal crops, whales don't break wood and are quieter, raccoons don't steal from chests, seagulls don't steal food, and Straddleboard enchantments are off.

[Amendments]: No potion combining (too OP), and lanterns don't fall or explode.

[Bigger Stacks]: All items (that could already be stacked) stack up to 640. The vanilla 64-stacks are WAY too small for my liking.

[Domestication Innovation]: All four curses are disabled.

[ModernFix]: Disabled "spawn chunks" entirely, to aid performance and increase passive mob spawns elsewhere.

[Nature's Compass]: Coordinates are not displayed; only the compass itself points to the biome.

[OpenBlocks Trophies]: Kills don't have to be player-made for a trophy to drop.

[Quark]: No feeding trough or ropes (Supplementaries does them better), no item sharing in chat, no seed pouches (redundant with Bigger Stacks), no automatic Fortune/Looting on gold tools, no chicken-grabbing, and no animal variants except for pigs and chickens. Greener Grass would ideally be on, but the bright foliage colors don't really match with the drabness of the other Minecraft blocks, so I'm leaving it off for consistency purposes.

[Supplementaries]: Narrator mode is off for speaker blocks, rain doesn't remove ash, no natural way-signs, no restriction on tall plants in flower boxes, bubble blocks don't break over time or when touched, bombs are off, slingshots can launch ender pearls, flags are fancy, and cages can capture ANY mob. (It's HARD to transport mobs long distances, dangit!!)

[Tectonic]: Maximum build height is 640.

[Waystones]: Inverted distance XP costs (meaning shorter distances cost more and farther ones cost less), inventory button only links to nearest waystone, average chunk distance between natural waystones is 16 rather than 25, and teleporting via the inventory button is more expensive.

[Xaero's Minimap]: The minimap itself is turned off; I'm only using this mod for its visual waypoint system.

RESOURCE PACK CHANGES:

-Budding amethyst, suspicious sand, and suspicous gravel have a border, to avoid me breaking them by accident. Textures are from VanillaTweaks.

-Fire appears "lower", so it doesn't block one's view as much when on fire. Textures are from VanillaTweaks.

-Glass has no streaks (doesn't apply to stained or tinted)

-Honey and slime blocks are solid. Textures are from VanillaTweaks.

-The "ragdoll" cat texture is replaced by the unused "gray tabby" from the Bedrock Edition files

-Cows are black and white instead of their vanilla colors (the texture is from the defunct mobile game Minecraft Earth)

-Since 1.20.1 doesn't have the new wolf variants, all wolves are the new "Rusty" color

-Leather armor doesn't have that HIDEOUS undyeable brown overlay

-The "damage indicator" particle (the one shaped like a heart) is fully black instead of that weird maroon color

IN-GAME OPTIONS/SETTINGS:

-Render Distance is 21, and Simulation Distance is 12. The rendering would ideally go farther out, but since I'm going to be recording in the background... better be safe.

-Brightness is set to 100%.

-Fullscreen is off, in case I need to look something up mid-game (changing window modes messes up my screen-recorder).

-Frame rate is capped at 60, because I can't record above that anyway.

-The attack-speed indicator is on the hotbar's right.

-"View bobbing" is off.

-Clouds are on, and set to Fancy mode.

-Smooth Lighting is on.

-Entity shadows and the "vignette" are off.

-Mipmap levels are at the max.

-Biome Blend is completely off, so I can see the borders more easily. Sorry if it makes the world look awkward, but I really need it to be off.

GAME RULE CHANGES:

-Entity cramming threshold is 99 instead of 24

-No pillager "patrols"; I find them annoying

-All explosions drop every block, not just from TNT

-Vines don't spread

DATA PACKS:

-Zombie sieges are disabled in all biomes, because they're annoying and can't be reliably prevented. (Why isn't there a game rule to disable them?!)

OTHER NOTES:

-The "blood sprayer" weapon from Alex's Mobs will not be used, as it shows red "bloody" particles, and I'm trying to keep my series PG. The "hemolyph blaster", however, uses blue, so that one's okay.

-I would have used the awesome rendering mod Distant Horizons, but it's incompatible with Supplementaries :(

-It won't be featured in this series, but I also want to shout out another fave of mine - the Polytone mod. It can change hardcoded colors, such as lightmaps and fireworks! And even more cool stuff!

-I was originally going to use Terralith (a worldgen mod which adds sky islands and volcanoes, among other cool things), but it also added a lot of other features that I don't really like all that much, and the mod's configs don't allow anything to be outright disabled. So, I decided to go with Tectonic instead, primarily because of the underground rivers it adds.
